CASA-1000 project can annually bring Kyrgyzstan $ 50 mln

The countries participating in the summit on the CASA-1000 project in Dushanbe came to a common opinion on the need to accelerate the physical implementation of the project, chairman of the board of the open joint-stock company "National Energy Holding Company" Aibek Kaliev said at the meeting with journalists at the end of the summit.

He said that the CASA-1000 summit gave a good signal to the world community that all four countries (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan) are committed to sooner implementation of the project.

"To date, all the participants have prepared the necessary documents and held tender activities. These procedures take a long time, and in the near future each participating country of the CASA-1000 project will determine the winners of tenders on its territory and the implementation of this project starts in 2018," Kaliev explained.

According to his information, the CASA-1000 project as a whole is estimated at $ 1 billion. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will need $ 200-250 million of the total amount.

"Its impossible to name the exact amount needed for each country, because it requires careful calculations and analysis of prices in the world market. But after the launching of the CASA-1000 project, it will become a guaranteed source of income for Kyrgyzstan, and annually, due to the export of electricity, which is about 1 billion kWh, Kyrgyz can receive profit in the amount of $ 50 million, "Kaliyev added.

The CASA-1000 project was officially launched on May 12, 2016. The goal of this project is to reduce the electricity deficit in South Asia through the export of energy resources in Central Asia and involves the construction of a high-voltage power transmission line that will link the energy systems of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan with Afghanistan and Pakistan.
