In 2016, farmers in Jalal-Abad oblast plan to export 100 thousand tons of walnut to the Netherlands, Mira Subankulova, Manager of UNDP Osh Area-Based Development Program said during the coordination meeting of UNDP program representatives with the pilot local self-governments (LSG).

According to her, last year cooperative of 300 farmers exported to the Netherlands 40 thousand tons of walnut, and this year it is planned to export 100 thousand tons. This event is held within the project "Aid for Trade" and "UNDP's contribution to poverty reduction through support to small and medium-sized businesses", the man of which is to support local entrepreneurs to promote exports of their products abroad.

In turn, the UNDP project coordinator Azamat Kasymov said that 23 business projects were implemented in 2015 in Osh and Jalal-Abad oblasts: walnut, prunes, apples, rice, honey, corn processing plants, opening greenhouses, service stations, workshops for repair office equipment and mobile phones created 174 jobs.

UNDP Programme for the Development of Osh and Jalal-Abad oblasts operates in 20 rural councils of seven regions of Osh and Jalal-Abad oblasts.
